Route
Excurtion starts from St. Quirico and Giulitta Church (known for its beautiful Romanesque belfry), easy reachable from Dervio railway station. Hence via ai Monti, a nice mule track that ascends the mountain, starts. It leads to some deli gthful places on the north-west slope of mount Muggio. In these villages there are various mountain huts, that used to be barns or farmsteads.
Going up the trail, we arrive at the entry of Falesia della Maliga, a rock dimbing gym built by CAI Dervio. We then go beyond a little chapel and reach Pianezzo (380 m), with its huts surrounded by green meadows.
Right beyond Pianezzo, taking a path on the right of the mule track, we come to Mai (402 m). Here, above the rocky cliff overlooking Dervio, we find Castelvedro ruins (V-VI centuries) and can admire the Amazing view over Dervio and Lake Como.
Proceeding along the flat path and going Beyond a chapel, we pass through the huts and reach a steep trail that offers panoramic views above Dervio, the lake, Mount Basso (585 m) and Cangiago (672 m).
Leaving the trail that goes up to Pratolungo, we take the path on the left; it proceeds through the woods and climbs down to Vignago (535 m), a beautiful village full of centuries-old chestnuts, also famous for the tasty porcino mushrooms we might find nearby.
Going left, we take the path and then the mule track which, following river Varrone in a higher position, descends to Pianezzo and leads to Dervio.
