Wine making in the area around Lake Como has very ancient origins, however, it experienced a sharp decline over the course of history. The “Terre Lariane” Protected Geographical Indication (IGT) was recognised in 2008 during the relaunch of the area’s viticulture. The production includes white, red and rosé wines, but in recent years, white wines are becoming more and more appreciated by wine lovers. The climatic and environmental conditions of Alto Lago di Como, in fact, allow producing high quality wines, even if it is still a niche market. Currently, most of the vineyards are concentrated on the slopes of Domaso and Colico. The landscapes are of great natural value, the vineyards are located on extremely steep hillsides and terraces, and the considerable temperature range gives the wines elegance, freshness and flavour.
