An easy circuit route that takes you through the villages of Colico; from the bicycle path along the bank of the River Adda, rising to Curcio, towards Villatico and Laghetto, finally reaching Olgiasca and the Abbey of Piona and then back to the Colico pier.
From the Pier of Colico, cross Piazza Garibaldi and take Via Montecchio Nord; after crossing the Inganna stream, continue along the path that leads along the bank of the river Adda. When reaching the sign indicating a pipeline, turn right leaving the bank to follow left into Via Adda. At the fork go right on the asphalt of Via Forte Fuentes until the stop sign; from here swerve to the right on the overpass (direction Sondrio / Chiavenna). At the roundabout take the second exit on the SP72, and turn immediately left into Via Boscone. At the junction continue straight into Via alla Chiesa, and then left into Via La Stradeta. At the crossroads turn right into Via Strada Granda and at the stop sign right in Via Fontana Vecchia. From here pass between the old washhouse and the nearby fountain – this was once a place of reference and a meeting for farmers to bring their cows to drink in the evening after milking. From here cross the village of Curcio and continue left uphill in Via Palerma; continue straight along Via Deserto, passing over the stream Inganna, and entering the village of Villatico from Via Campione. At the intersection in front of the church of St. Bernardino, cross the square and continue straight on Via Perlino. The torrent Perlino anticipates the entrance to the small village of Laghetto; at the junction with Via Fumiarga, turn right downhill on a short stretch of cobblestones, reaching the church of San Fedele. At the intersection in front of the cemetery, turn left downhill into Via Laghetto; at the junction after the bar Roma continue straight on Via La Ca until the SS36 overpass. At the junction (there is a fountain), turn right downhill to the intersection with the SP72 and from head left towards Olgiasca (Note: if you would prefer to avoid the challenging stretch leading to Piona, and return to Colico from here, continue straight on Via Palazzo *). Otherwise, after a stretch of about 2.2 km, turn right and follow signs for Abbazia di Piona (The Abbey of Piona). A short but challenging climb leads us to Olgiasca; at the junction below the church, pedal left downhill, then straight over the cobblestones leading to the abbey. After visiting the religious and historical complex, retrace the path back to the junction with the SP72; this time turning left towards Colico. At the intersection before the railway underpass, turn left in Via Palazzo (towards the train station, signpost Stazione FS / Piona).
* Follow left along the fence of the campsite, and at the intersection, turn left into Via Logasc; after about 100 metres turn right into Via dei Ciacc, then straight for about 1.7 km until you take a left on Via Lido. At the bottom of the hill, turn right again to reach the Colico pier.
