Perched on a grassy saddle at 1,105 metres above sea level, directly facing the Sasso di Musso, the Church of San Bernardo was consecrated in 1856, though its origins date back at least to the 18th century. Inside the church stands a statue of San Bernardo, donated in 1892 by the farming communities of Musso and Catasco (a hamlet of Garzeno). Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the oratory underwent several renovations. The roof was covered, a porch was added in 1906, and a bell tower with a sacristy was constructed in 1914.
Further restoration took place in 1970. During this work, the roof and porch were rebuilt using slate and chestnut planks, the exterior walls were repaired, and the interior was renovated. This included replacing the floor of the room located above the sacristy.
This small church, offering a breathtaking view of the lake, Monte Legnone and the Albano Valley, stands alongside the famous Via dei Monti Lariani trail and is accessible only on foot or by mountain bike.
Every summer, on the Sunday following San Rocco, the church becomes the focal point of a traditional celebration dedicated to San Bernardo, which draws numerous visitors, including many from neighbouring villages.
